Dear Donor,
It has been an incredible year so far and we hope that 2021 is treating you fairly. We would be delighted to hear that you are observing all Covid-19 protocols and following regulations in keeping safe. We are equally advising on getting vaccinated if you can, and when it is available in your location. It is safe and medically responsible to do so.
Here at fundraising, we would like to bring you up to speed on our journey so far and how far reaching your donation has gone. In the first quarter of this year, we asked for the support for elderly persons affected by Leprosy who are in our care in different settlements across Southern Nigeria. We reached out to churches, Governments and the general public for support in order to care for them.
We are happy to announce that as at the end of March, 2021, we got N892,590 in donations. Before now we support 75 elderly persons affected by Leprosy with N15,000 as a monthly stipend. This welfare support is from our sister organisation, DAHW Nigeria. Due to dwindling funds, we can no longer meet up with these obligations. To be able to meet a certain part of this obligation, we cut down the number of recipients to 35 persons across 9 Leprosy Settlements and also cut down their payments to N10,000 monthly.
So, for the first quarter we are paying for 35 persons in these settlements as follows: Nnewi Okija, Anambra State (5); Iberekodo, Ogun State (3); Uburu (5) and Mile Four, Ebonyi State (5); Ogoja, Cross-River State (5); Nchia Eleme, Rivers State (3); Uzuakoli, Abia State (5); Nike Center (3) and Oji river, Enugu State (1). The total of these payments amounts to N1,050,000 and we are marking up the balance from our closing balance of 2020 donated funds which is N1,434,580.
By cutting down the number of recipients from 75 persons to 35 persons, we can successfully pay for 2 consecutive quarters with the hope that we will generate more for the remainder of the year. We want to promise you that we are doing everything within our power to reach out to more people and increase our donations to be able to meet the needs of the vulnerable within our communities. We still have other areas begging for our attention; empowerment and mobility devices for Persons with Disabilities and fight against neglected tropical diseases (especially care for children affected by Buruli Ulcer); we can’t do it alone without your support.
Above all, we want to thank you for the immense support so far and pray that this partnership will grow stronger to benefit our community greatly.
