RedAid Nigeria in collaboration with the German Government provides personal protective equipment to three faith based hospitals in three southeastern states of Nigeria.
The current COVID-19 pandemic poses challenges for everyone. But nobody faces more challenges than healthcare facilities and its employees. While the normal work continues, healthcare workers risk infection with the new coronavirus every time they treat a patient who has not been diagnosed. The only solution is the use of personal protective equipment, such as face masks and latex gloves. While state owned hospitals receive equipment from the state government, other healthcare facilities have to cover the extra costs for additional preventive measures.
RedAid Nigeria seeks support from German government
Seeing the struggle of partner hospitals RedAid Nigeria proposed the provision of personal protective equipment to the German Consulate General. The German Consulate General agreed to fund the purchase and delivery of the material to three faith based hospitals in Anambra, Ebonyi and Cross River. RedAid Nigeria consequently purchased face masks, latex gloves, eye goggles, hand sanitizer, protective boots, isolation gowns and infrared thermometers.
Relief in troubling times
In the first week of August, RedAid Nigeria visited the three beneficiary hospitals and handed over the material. Representatives of the local non-governmental organisation visited St. Joseph’s Hospital in Adazi / Anambra State, St. Benedict’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Ogoja / Cross River State and St. Patrick’s Hospital Mile Four in Abakaliki / Ebonyi State. Hospital staff received the visitors and expressed their gratitude for the support in these trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Your kind donation will go a long way to facilitate us in coping better in this Covid 19 pandemic era”, said Sr. Charity Munonye, the Hospital Administrator of St. Patrick’s Hospital Mile Four.
